World Health Day 2010
World Health Day: Changing individual behaviour
Change Centre Foundation says individual behaviour modification is pivotal to a healthy society.
On the occasion of the World Health Day, annually conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the promotion of the population’s health awareness is on the public agenda on April 7th. This year’s campaign “1000 cities – 1000 lives” focuses on healthier urban life.
“Raising each and everyone’s awareness of a healthier lifestyle is the right approach to overcome unwholesome behaviour patterns”, Joachim Klewes from the Change Centre Foundation agrees. “But what we desperately lack is consolidated knowledge of the precise behaviour change needed. It is neither identified adequately nor addressed specifically in health campaigns.”
According to him, a positive example of successful communication which in deed got through to people’s everyday life would be the slogan “an apple a day keeps the doctor away“ in disease prevention and fighting obesity.
Such colloquial diminution is needed in other fields of health promotion, too, as in the case of properly washing one’s hands for pandemia prevention, for example. According to its’ own statement, the Change Centre Foundation is just ready for that translation into simplicity.
